Some defects will not affect the performance of the die casting, so they will not cause casting scrap, while others may affect the performance of the casting and become scrap. Precautions for designing die castings with inserts:

1. The connection between the insert and the die casting must be firm, and the insert shall be slotted, raised, knurled, etc.

2. Sharp corners must be avoided for inserts to facilitate placement and prevent stress concentration of castings.

3. The stability of insert positioning on the die must be considered to meet the matching requirements in the die.

4. The metal layer of the outer insert shall not be less than 1.5 ~ 2mm.

5. The number of inserts on the casting should not be too large.

6. If there is serious electrochemical corrosion between casting and insert, the surface of insert shall be protected by coating.

7. Heat treatment shall be avoided for die castings with inserts to avoid volume change caused by phase transformation of two metals and loosening of inserts.

Die casting quality includes appearance quality, internal quality and service quality. Appearance quality refers to the roughness, surface quality, dimensional tolerance, geometric tolerance and quality deviation of casting surface; Internal quality refers to the chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties, metallographic structure, holes, inclusions and cracks in the casting; Service quality refers to that the casting can meet various service requirements and working properties, such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and machinability, weldability, etc.
